(A) Conversion of "km" to "m"
When we are doing number bonds in converting m to km, we break up the thousands and the remaining ones. For example,
2587m
= (2 thousands and 587 ones) metres
= 2000m + 587m
= 2km + 587m
= 2km 587m
(B) Conversion of "m" to "km"
When we are doing number bonds in converting km to m, we find out how ones there are in the thousands and then add them to the remaining ones. For example,
3km 500m
= 3000m + 500m
= 3500m
